Import & Export Compliance Specialist

Our client is a world-leading supplier of combustion products and is part of one of the largest privately held companies in the USA. Its equipments are supplied for applications in various markets with a focus on the refining and petrochemical Industry. The range of products covers burners, flares, thermal oxidizers and vapor recovery systems. The Company is able to develop industry-leading innovations and make strategic acquisitions to offer proven emissions control and clean-air solutions.

The Headquarters for European Operations are located in Dudelange, GD of Luxembourg.

Our Client is expanding its activities and wishes to complement and strengthen its Logistics team. In this respect, we are looking for a: 

 

IMPORT & EXPORT COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST (M/F)


Based in Luxembourg


 Who will be based in Dudelange, GD of Luxembourg and will report to the Procurement and Logistics Manager.

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Purpose: Responsible for overall compliance, commercial, economic, and technical success of the Company’s projects related to importing and exporting goods.

Summary:   Ensure all import and export activities adhere to customs regulations. Plan, strategize, perform, administer, and execute all technical and analytical work related to import and export compliance requirements. Without compromising compliance obligations, continually seek to increase speed of supply chain and product delivery to customers while decreasing risk and meeting the needs of a growing global customer base.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to all aspects of Global Logistics and Trade Compliance covered by Customs and EAR regulations and other jurisdictions.

  • Plan, prepare and process export and import activities.

  • Conduct day-to-day trade activities to ensure international shipments are in compliance including: shipping documentation, export license determination, classification, valuation and Incoterms.

  • Interface with Engineering and Program Managers to understand technical characteristics and how that impacts export classifications and US and local government licensing on the Company’s products/technology.

  • Initiate, coordinate, and lead team projects to include cross functional projects.

  • Engage with product teams to understand changing product lines and business models and develops corresponding processes to ensure compliance with applicable export requirements

  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with all intra company departments and facilities to fully understand the business, technical aspects of the product, research, materials, applications and other business resources.

  • Provide guidance to employees concerning the requirements and obligations of cross-border movement of goods.

  • Support the product classification process to ensure HTS/ECCN assignment and communication of this information to appropriate business personnel

  • Work with both internal and external partners to measure and define trade compliance process and drive improvements.

  • Work with external partners and overseas contract manufacturers to provide advice and guidance on day-to-day import and export transactions.

  • Participate in a variety of projects supporting the broader Logistics/Trade Compliance team’s goals and objectives.

  • Assist in internal export compliance audits, risk assessments, and process improvement plans.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong understanding of company Ethics, Integrity and Social Responsibility policies.

  • Minimum 5 to 7 of years of experience in International Trade Compliance. Experience with several products typologies is definitely a plus.

  • Experienced in Global Freight Forwarding, intermodal logistics and Customhouse Broker operations.

  • Deep knowledge on customs regimes such as harmonized tariff schedules, customs valuations, controlled products, country of origin rules, free trade programs, and import VAT rules.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of transportation contracts and frame agreements.

  • Familiar with global country security initiatives and qualified service providers requirements.

  • Able to direct, analyze, support, execute and implement all U.S. import CBP Regulatory Compliance operations and Export Regulatory compliance under Export Administration and other applicable government agencies.

  • Motivated to continue familiarization, training and research in all foreign countries Customs import and export Regulatory Compliance requirements.

  • Able to manage several projects of varying complexity simultaneously and effectively.

  • Able to support team initiatives and as required travel, lead, train, and provide direction at global company offices.


 

  • Ability to interact with all individuals at all organizational levels; conducts self in professional manner and applies active communication skills.

  • Ability to problem solving, resolve conflict and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Strong organizational, team and communication skills to work independently and take initiative to address issues.

  • Ability to exercise strong interpersonal skills with internal/external suppliers and customers in the logistics and transportation industry to handle the Company’s business requirements and deal with varied situations that will arise.

  • Ability to create strategic documents, proposals and presentations to management for review and assessment on business activity and needs, identifying opportunities for process improvement in relationship to realistic business requirements.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and manage multiple priorities; sets priorities in an efficient manner and optimizes use of time and resources to accomplish short term and long term goals required to meet business objectives.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and to respond effectively to sensitive and confidential information and matters.
